Digital Media Strategist, Writer, Editor, Entrepreneur

Welcome to my blog, which is really nothing more than an aggregator of my postings throughout the Web and an explanation of my digital media experience. Nothing more, nothing less. Like a LinkedIn profile but more accessible.

About Me

Health care

I am interested in all things digital/social media. I am currently the Director of Digital Content for a NJ-based medical publisher. In this role I oversee the development of online content for several publications and brands across multiple websites. I help to produce multimedia content in the form of podcasts, videos, webinars, and anything else that will help engage our readers through the use of unique content. I also write content, produce e-mail marketing newsletters, and am always looking for ways to generate additional revenue streams for my company. I am responsible for maintaining about a dozen Twitter accounts and about 10 Facebook pages. I also regularly use social media sites like StumbleUpon, Reddit, and LinkedIn to disseminate content and find trending topics that align with my company's editorial mission.

I have written a monthly newsletter for that past three years that focuses in the ways in which pharmaceutical brand managers can utilize social media to perform their jobs more effectively. I created a teaser website specifically for this newsletter, which I update occasionally. I have also written guest columns in well known, industry publications.

Health care professionals in general are interested and appreciative of the opportunities that social media can provide them; however, they are intimidated by myths and hesitant to risk their privacy. I have taken the initiative to help dispel those myths and bring to the surface the ways in which health care professionals can utilize these sites by showing the basics and making sure that they know their privacy options. I have written a white paper and have presented a webinar on this very topic to a large audience of physicians, nurses, and pharmacists.

Sports

In my spare time, of which there seems to be less and less these days, I am a freelance sports writer. Among those sites which I edit or produce content for are NFL.com's Blog Blitz and Yahoo! Sport's newest sports site, ThePostGame. I manage the AFC East portion of the Blog Blitz; this includes scheduling assignments for approximately 20 editors and making sure that posts are edited and presented in proper HTML format. Additionally, I occasionally write articles for the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins team pages. I have had the pleasure of covering the NFL Draft in 2010 and 2011 and captured fans' reactions and player press conferences while updating Twitter accounts and writing content for NFL.com.

A couple years ago I created a sports blog called 27pitches.com. By way of social media marketing and other grassroots efforts, I was able to build a community of readers. Traffic reached a moderate level, and when I was approached with an offer, I took the opportunity to sell the blog and begin writing on a freelance basis for the new site, TheFanHub, which I continue to write for today.

Social Media

I am very passionate about social media and the way it can open doors and help to establish both business and personal relationships. I have active profiles on:

Facebook

Twitter

Google Plus

LinkedIn

...and many more.

I have met and interacted with some interesting and helpful people on these sites, and have been able to establish some tremendous connections just by sharing information, musing on topics that interest me, or simply asking for help. I cherish any opportunity to do the same for others.

I am proficient with several different types of content management systems and have a basic knowledge of HTML. I pride myself on staying ahead of the curve when it comes to social media strategies, tools, and innovations. I enjoy staying up to date on mobile trends and am always on the lookout for the next big thing.

What do I want to get out of this blog? I'm not quite sure. What I do know is that by offering up my experiences and providing another outlet to be contacted, I might be able to make some new connections and keep evolving by learning from others.
